Bama Fact Check has won first place honors for investigative reporting from the Alabama Associated Press Media Editors.

The awards were announced Saturday at the APME awards luncheon in Birmingham.

It's Bama Fact Check's second win in two years. The website was launched during the contentious 2010 election, and journalists set about fact-checking the accusations that were flying between Alabama politicians at the time. In 2011, a non-election year, we took a close look at politicians' claims about immigration, global warming and the size of the defense budget.

This year's APME awards were judged by newspaper editors in Oklahoma.
